Hello! Welcome to wordsfortheologians.org. My name is Pierce, author of Finding God in the Ordinary and The Speaking Trinity & His Worded World. This is a meeting place for those who love the triune God and love reading words that promote biblical truth. It’s also a place where people who love the God of the Bible can come to be encouraged, inspired, and informed.
There are two things that you should know about me up front: (1) I believe that language (what I call communion behavior) is rooted in the trinitarian God of Scripture (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The goal of language is to draw us closer to God and to each other. In other words, the primary goal of language is to facilitate communion. (2) I believe that our ability to write is one of the most amazing ways in which we image God. If you put these two things together, you can see why I think language is a huge deal!! It profoundly shapes all of us because of who God is and who we are. And this website is a place where I hope that truth is always evident.
Writing is my passion and calling, and this website is a place where I’d like to share that with you. I aim to publish at least one new post per week. So, if you don’t want to miss anything, and if you’d like a copy of my FREE ebook (In Divine Company: Growing Closer to the God Who Speaks), enter your email below to receive updates. You can also follow me on Twitter @HibbsPierce and Facebook. And feel free to check out my Amazon author page.
I pray that the resources I can contribute here will serve the global church well and minister to you where you are. Happy reading!

I want my readers to know who I am. So, here’s a bit of my background. In short, I’m a husband, father, writer, teacher, and student (always). My wife, Christina, is an amazing blogger herself (check out her website HERE). We’re both creative types, seeking to encourage others with the truth and beauty in God’s word and world. We have three children (Isaac, Nora, and Heidi), who constantly remind me that fatherhood will teach me more about God than any theologian ever could.
I have a BA in Professional Writing from Elizabethtown College (2007), an MAR in Theological Studies from Westminster Theological Seminary (2010), and a ThM in Systematic Theology (2016) from the same institution. I plan to complete my MA TESOL degree from Biola University in 2020. (Yes, yes — maybe I’ve been a student for too long.)
I’ve been working at Westminster for several years, helping native and non-native English speaking students to improve their writing for the glory of God.
I LOVE books, anything having to do with the Trinity and the nature of language. Or contemporary poetry. Or literature. Or art. Okay, fine — I’ll read pretty much anything. My favorite activity is . . . you guessed it: writing! Writing enables me to discover, explore, and express. I can’t get enough of it.
That’s just a bit about who I am. Like many Christians, I’m constantly seeking to grow into the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29) in all the facets of my life. This website will, in the end, be something of a chronicle of my journey, a testament to the grace and beauty and compassion of God in my life. I hope that testament does something to grow your own faith.
NOTE: While I teach at Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS), the opinions and views expressed on this site are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of WTS, its Administration, or its Board of Trustees.
